Approach to Teaching and Learning
City Poly believes in providing students with opportunities to think and act critically about their world through authentic projects, common assessments, and thoughtful feedback. We believe the skills we teach and assess through these projects should be transferable to academic lives and prepare students for college, the workforce, and beyond.
Teachers are challenged to develop deep and meaningful projects that bring joy and meaning to students’ lives. Collective teacher efficacy has the greatest potential impact on a student’s academic, social, and emotional well-being. Collective teacher efficacy refers to a staff’s shared belief that through their collective action, they can positively influence student outcomes. When each of us believes we can help every student succeed, we are more likely to push and persevere to make it happen than if some of us do and others don’t. Our students feel the difference when we all do the same things. It builds culture.
Our students need and receive social and emotional support and a strong community culture to thrive. We partner and communicate with families in order to make our philosophy and vision come to life.
